Mark Your Calendar: National Injury Prevention Day is July 7
At Meadowlands Physiotherapy, we believe in helping Canadians live long, active, and pain-free lives—not only through treatment but also through prevention. That’s why we’re proud to support National Injury Prevention Day (NIPD), taking place this year on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Now in its ninth year, NIPD is a national awareness day led by Parachute Canada and officially recognized by Health Canada. The goal is simple but powerful: to educate Canadians on how to prevent injuries—at home, on the road, and at play—so we can all enjoy life to its fullest.
Why Injury Prevention Matters
Injuries are often seen as unfortunate accidents, but many are both predictable and preventable. The statistics are staggering:
- Injury is the #1 cause of death among Canadians aged 1 to 44.
- Every day, 48 Canadians die and 634 are hospitalized due to injury.
- Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths and hospital visits in Canada.
- The economic impact is enormous, with injuries costing Canadians $29.4 billion annually.
As physiotherapists, we see firsthand how preventable injuries—such as falls, overuse injuries, car accident trauma, and sports-related sprains—can derail people’s lives. These aren’t just numbers—they’re real people, families, and communities affected by pain, mobility loss, and long recovery periods.
How You Can Take Action
On July 7, join us and thousands of others across Canada to raise awareness. Here’s how you can participate:
- Light up green – Landmarks across Canada will be lit in green to symbolize injury prevention. Consider lighting your home or office green in solidarity.
- Spread the word – Share safety tips and prevention strategies on social media using #ParachuteNIPD.
- Stay informed – Learn how to reduce risks in everyday activities, whether it’s fall-proofing your home, wearing proper safety gear, or maintaining good posture and movement habits.
At Meadowlands Physiotherapy, prevention is at the heart of what we do. We’re here to support you with injury risk assessments, fall prevention strategies, balance training, and post-injury rehabilitation. Whether you’re recovering or looking to reduce your risk, we’re ready to help.
Prevention Today for a Safer Tomorrow
National Injury Prevention Day reminds us that small changes—like improving home safety, adjusting movement patterns, or even taking breaks during repetitive tasks—can make a big impact.
Let’s work together toward a safer, healthier Canada.
